Trump to meet with Democratic Hill Leaders over shutdown

President Trump plans to accept the invitation from Congressional Democratic leaders to meet and discuss a solution for avoiding a government shutdown.

Why it matters: Republican and Democratic Hill leaders are at a standoff over a stopgap funding measure with the Sept. 30 deadline for avoiding a shutdown quickly approaching.

Trump plans to meet with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) some time before the shutdown deadline, though a time has not been decided.
Democratic leaders were informed of the decision on Monday, two sources familiar with the matter said. A White House official confirmed a meeting will happen, but did not share any additional details on timing.

"It is now your obligation to meet with us directly to reach an agreement to keep the government open and address the Republican health care crisis," the two Democratic leaders wrote.
It's was not immediately clear if Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D) or Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) would join the meeting.
