Law enforcement shot and killed an armed man outside of President Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort Sunday, the Secret Service said.
The big picture: Trump was not at his Florida home when the shooting occurred, though he often travels to the Palm Beach resort for the weekend.
The latest: Authorities identified the suspect to multiple outlets as Austin Tucker Martin, 21, from North Carolina.
Driving the news: The suspect was spotted by the north gate of the property carrying what the Secret Service said appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel can.
- The shooting occurred after what the Secret Service called an "unauthorized entry" into Mar-a-Lago's "secure perimeter."
- Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said in a press conference that a sheriff's deputy and two Secret Service agents confronted the man, who put down the gas can he was carrying but raised the shotgun before law enforcement shot him.
- The FBI is leading the investigation, he said. No Secret Service or Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office personnel were injured, and no protectees were present.
