Meta on Wednesday said it's debuting a new Mac app to help influencers and small businesses use AI to improve the way they promote products and run their businesses
Why it matters: The move puts Meta's AI tool to work in advertising — where the company makes its money.
Driving the news: Meta says the new Mac app gives a single place for consumers to connect to its AI tools, while also allowing businesses and creators that use its advertising tools to see what's working and what isn't and craft more tailored messages.
- Meta also said the Meta AI Mac desktop app can now connect to Google Workspace accounts to access business e-mail, calendars and document information.
- The new features are also available in the mobile app and Meta AI website.
Zoom in: Creators and small business owners are already using AI tools to help them create organic content that helps them grow their brand.
- These new tools are designed specifically for Meta and Facebook, where a lot of that promotion happens.
- Meta suggests using prompts like: "What types of content have worked best for me over the last month for my Instagram account? What can I do differently? Send me a report every Monday."
What they're saying: Meta says more tools are coming soon.
The big picture: The moves come as Meta is investing heavily in AI, looking to catch up both at the frontier as well as expand the use of AI to all the places where it does business today.
- CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently penned a lengthy memo where he called for the company to deliver highly personalized and private AI agents that work on a user's behalf.
- The company has also debuted a new family of Muse models, the first family from Alexandr Wang's Meta Superintelligence Labs.
Yes, but: Per the company's privacy policy, any data shared with Meta, including from business Google accounts, can be used to train future AI systems as well as to target ads.
- The company does have an Incognito Mode in the Meta AI app that processes chats in a secure environment that Meta can't access.
- In his recent manifesto, CEO Mark Zuckerberg makes reference to wanting to offering personal AI agents with a similar level of protection to Incognito Mode, but the company has yet to share any details on that.
