D.C. chefs launch food drives and fundraisers amid shutdown

• World Central Kitchen is now serving weekday lunches at D.C. pop-up locations with local restaurants.

Zoom in: More are jumping in. Pastry star and Bakers Against Racism co-founder Paola Velez just launched "The New Sugar Act" — a new community bake initiative offering free pastries to those impacted.

Free breakfast and food drive at the Roost

Weds, 9am

• A hearty breakfast for those impacted by the shutdown or SNAP uncertainty (more breakfasts to come).
• Those not facing food insecurity are encouraged to bring pantry goods for donation.

Give Back Night at Chai Pani

Weds, 5:30-10pm

• All locations are donating 10% of net sales during dinner service to food banks, including the Capital Area Food Bank.

The New Sugar Act at Providencia

Sat, 10am-12pm

• Free baked goods for feds and those who rely on SNAP — registration required.

• Businesses can donate pastries; individuals can give funds or volunteer (details here).

The Little Grand x Dolcezza Fundraiser

Sun-Mon, 5-9pm

• The H Street duo will host a Slices & Soft Serve Party to raise funds for the Capital Area Food Bank with a $2,000 goal.
• Tickets ($16) include a slice of pizza and dulce de leche soft-serve.
